music

music is one of the things i've put the most time into outside class. i play piano, clarinet, and violin. at princeton i play piano in the princeton pianists ensemble, clarinet in orchestra, and mostly piano in chamber music for class. i sometimes accompany friends on piano for solo pieces.

i listen to a lot of kpop, jpop, r&b, and classical, and i love listening to music all the time. i find new songs through friends and recommendations. lately i've been getting into iems (in-ear monitors) and trying to be more of an audiophile, and i am chronically lurking on the r/audiophile and r/iems subreddits. my iems are the thieaudio hype 4; i also love listening on apple airpods pro 2, sony wh-1000xm5, and samsung galaxy buds 2.

i started piano at six. clarinet from nine. violin from eleven. i competed on all three; in high school i focused on piano and clarinet (california all-state honor band, summer clarinet programs, piano competitions).

your name (kimi no na wa), medley

princeton pianists ensemble · richardson auditorium · five pianos · original arrangement

I wrote this medley for PPE and premiered it in Richardson. Mostly five pianos, but there's a stretch where I switch to violin while everyone else keeps playing. Mixed in a bit of A Silent Voice, plus Dream Lantern, Zenzenzense, Nandemonaiya, and Sparkle.

ryuichi sakamoto: reflections

princeton pianists ensemble · fantasia (fall 2024) · richardson auditorium

A set of Sakamoto themes — The Last Emperor, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Andata, Energy Flow, and more. Meryl Liu and Jeffrey Xu arranged it, and I played in the ensemble for the November 2024 concert.

liszt: hungarian rhapsody no. 2 in c-sharp minor (5 pianos)

princeton pianists ensemble · equinox · lee rehearsal hall · may 2024

Five pianos. Kellen Cao and Bethany Mariel Suliguin arranged the whole thing, from the Lassan through the Friska. We performed it for PPE's spring Equinox program.

ensemble · 2023

debussy: la fille aux cheveux de lin & minstrels (5 pianos)

princeton pianists ensemble · aurora · richardson auditorium · nov 2023

Kellen Cao and Anthony Coniglio arranged La fille and Minstrels into one piece. Kellen and I wore jester hats for part of it. The staging was intentionally silly.
